Your team operates on its own, though, as a trainer, it's still your responsibility to direct their actions. Combat is a weird mix of real-time and turn-based combat. Then you have to head out to the Digital World and fight, which is almost as convoluted a process as raising the Digimon. Right from the start, you have to spend a fair bit of time in a constant care cycle of training, eating, pottying, resting - and then you wash, rinse, and repeat. The problem is that it takes a lot of time and patience plodding through the first third or so before it builds momentum and finally finds its stride. It's definitely a blast to play, especially for fans of the franchise, but it has a fairly steep learning curve.

Unfortunately, the in-game tutorial is pretty lackluster, leaving players to learn the nuances of things through trial and error.ĭigimon World: Next Order requires a fair bit of commitment from the player. It's a very hands-on approach with a lot of micromanagement. Between training, feeding, praising, scolding, and sending them to the toilet, it almost feels like you're running an actual day care - although a day care where the kids have fur, horns, and wings and can shoot out fire, ice, and other elements. As much time as players spend in combat fighting against enemies, they'll spend at least as much time monitoring the needs and activities of your various Digimon friends. Digimon World: Next Order manages to take fans on a trip down memory lane by incorporating those classic elements as a major part of the gameplay. It's sometimes hard to believe that the whole Digimon craze originally started 20 years ago as nothing more than tiny electronic virtual pets you had to feed, train, and, well, clean up after. But don’t compare the two because they are not similar at all. This role-playing game can be fun for fans of the franchise, so long as they're willing to deal with lots of micromanagement.

If you want a very basic RPG with a decent story, pick Cyber Sleuth, if you want a unique game full of heart that captures the true essence of Digimon, pick Next 0rder. This game does what it sets out to do very well, I think, and I really enjoy it. There isn’t another game like it that isn’t Digimon, and it captures the true heart of Digimon since Digimon started as (and they still continue to release) virtual pets. Next 0rder is a completely unique game (along with World 1 and the 3DS game). I personally didn’t like it too much, but I am playing through it again and it’s not as bad as I remember, although it does feel very basic. The only difference between certain Digimon is stats for the most part, because all the “special” attacks are the same just with different elements and animations that play when you use them. At the risk of being downvoted I will tell you that while Cyber Sleuth has a good story and generally more story than Next 0rder, it is a very barebones RPG in terms of gameplay mechanics. They are entirely different kinds of games. If you’re comparing it to Cyber Sleuth, don’t. Turn on easy mode by talking to I think Punimon, and your stat gains from training will be better, and it doesn’t affect battle difficulty either so there’s no reason to not have easy mode on, imo. The only thing I don’t like about it is the default difficulty makes it impossible to gain stats. Personally I really love it, but I am a super vpet fan, so I am a bit biased. It’s basically just like Digimon World 1 except it’s a direct sequel where you get TWO Digimon instead of 1! And your digimon don’t die after losing 3 battles! I didn’t get into it when I first bought it, but I recently started playing it “for real” and it’s just great. I watched this video for where yo train, but this player is better than me: Play the game this way and use the older digimon to train the younger one. It will make huge gains and become as strong as the ultimate while a rookie or champion. This is the sweet spot, train the baby until it is rookie and then go fight the strongest digimon the older digimon and beat. When you level, unlock perfect guard and stat gains through fighting player abilities. They will make champion pretty easy and one will make ultimate. When it gets dark port back home and train until bed.

Then, train until they eat the first time, then explore and fight. Train in the gym for hp until they are rookie level. They will be difficult to raise and they are both the same level. Do the best you can with your first digimon. I’ll post links for the guides I used early on, but here was my system.
